The Blessing of Fellowship
About a week and a half ago, my youngest sister and her fiancé flew in to celebrate their engagement party. I had not seen my sister since she moved away last summer to work on a cattle ranch and it felt great to finally be reunited again, even if it was just for a couple of days. We had a lovely time getting coffee, enjoying a walk along the beach, and having lunch out.
When the day of the engagement party rolled around, we weren’t sure who would actually come as my mom had not received a lot of RSVPs. Yummy food was laid out in preparation and my husband and my dad had spent hours the night before blowing up balloons. Friends and family started to trickle in a little after mid-day and groups of people came and went as the day progressed.
It was a surprise and blessing to see all of the friends who came to celebrate my sister and her fiancé’s engagement. Neighbors we grew up with, friends we are privileged to call “Grandpa” and “Grandma” as ours have long since gone to their reward, church friends, ranch friends, and friends we consider to be like family. It was a beautiful day filled with love, laughter, and an amazing time of fellowship.
The cherry on top of that weekend was that my sister ended getting to visit for a couple of extra days due to storms out west cancelling her flight out. She even got to be in town to celebrate my dad’s birthday. One of my brothers whom we hadn’t seen in over a year came to celebrate my dad’s birthday as well and it was surreal to have almost all of my family together under one roof again.
Reminiscing over the whirlwind of a weekend we had, with long days and late nights, I’m grateful. Being able to fellowship with others is a blessing and a privilege many of us took for granted before everything shut down last year. Cherish the time you do get to spend with family and friends and be grateful for fellowship—it is most definitely a blessing.
