Take Time to Smell the Jasmine
After a particularly busy week between work and family stuff, I finally went grocery shopping this past Friday with plans to get the ingredients needed for a different method of meal prep that I wanted to try (more on that soon). Several hours and stores later, I exited Trader Joe’s to head home and prepare for a family member’s surprise birthday party.
As I was exiting the store, I happened to notice jasmine plants on display at the store entrance/exit. My curiosity was piqued as I’ve only smelled jasmine before as a fragrance. Being tired and hungry, I was not about to stand back in line just to get one, so I headed home.
But I couldn’t get it off my mind.
On my way home from horseback riding on Saturday, I drove through the store parking lot. The line to get inside was way too long. So much for that, I thought. However, Sunday I needed to run out to grab a couple of last minute grocery items and I decided I would go ahead and get a jasmine plant if there was still any to be had. Fortunately, there was.
It was covered in buds and after bringing it home, several of the flowers opened. The fragrance was absolutely divine. Despite feeling exhausted from the week and not accomplishing all I had hoped to get done, it made me happy every time I thought of how exquisite the jasmine plant smelled.
Sometimes, finding gratitude in the chaos is as simple as taking the time to smell the roses, I mean, the jasmine.
