Reflecting on Gratitude

It’s Thanksgiving week! When recalling the extremes we’ve witnessed this year, such as natural disasters, civil unrest, fear-driven hysteria, and restrictions that threaten our constitutional rights (oh, and let’s not forget the great toilet paper “shortages” of 2020), it can be difficult to feel grateful.

But if we take a moment to pause and reflect on the good that has happened this year, the negative begins to fade into the background as happy memories surface. The warm, fuzzy feelings that bring a smile to your face as you recall special moments are a welcome reminder that it’s a good thing to recall those positive events.

Sometimes, it takes challenging times to wake us up out of our comfort zones and shift us out of survival mode into thriving mode. It makes us consider what is truly important and to cherish the moments with those we love—to intentionally take the time to do the things that we know will have lasting impact.

This year, I’m grateful for the time I’ve had to re-evaluate priorities and take the steps to begin thriving again. I changed jobs, I started this blog, I’m taking the time to read and learn new things, I’m focusing on improving my health, and learning to have fun even when I’m outside of my comfort zone.

As you reflect back on this year, what are some of the things you’re grateful for? I hope that as you consider that question, your heart begins to swell with gratitude as you recall with thanksgiving how blessed you truly are!
