My Top 5 Gratitude List
Life can feel stressful. Responsibilities can seem overwhelming. The “to-do” list somehow never quite makes it into being the “completely done” list. When we choose to place our focus on the things that didn’t go right, or the tasks that didn’t get completed, or something we messed up on, our perspective can become clouded with negativity. However, if we choose to focus on what we’re grateful for and the reasons why we’re grateful for those things, our perspective shifts from the negative to the positive. When we have a positive perspective, it helps energize us, especially when circumstances are difficult.
So, my top five things this past week that I’m grateful for, and the reasons why, are as follows:
Number 5: A new car battery. After having intermittent vehicle issues the past couple of weeks, I’m grateful that the solution was as simple as getting a new car battery. The old battery was at least eight years old, so I guess it was finally time for a new one. I have peace of mind knowing that my car is working reliably again.
Number 4: Sunny, summer-like weather this past Saturday as I look a long walk at the beach with my husband and a good friend. Walking along the beach refreshes my soul and I’m grateful I get to enjoy the outdoors with those I love.
Number 3: A rainy, relaxed day on Sunday. I chose to take the time to curl up on the couch and snuggle with my husband and our kitties. I am learning that by choosing to rest, I’m actually able to accomplish more from that place of rest instead of feeling constantly exhausted and burned out.
Number 2: My brother celebrated his 30th birthday yesterday. Considering that we weren’t sure if he’d live to see his 25th, I am so grateful that he is alive today and living life to the fullest. Every time I recall what happened five and half years ago, I am reminded to cherish those we love as we never know what tomorrow holds.
Number 1: My car crash case is finally settled (more on that soon)! Despite multiple disappointments that occurred over the course of this case, I am ultimately grateful that it is settled, as it means I am finally able to begin the journey of taking better care of my health and well-being.
