Clearing the Clutter
This weekend, I finally took the time to deal with the source of something that was a constant frustration to me and my husband: the “catch-all.” You know, the spot that tends to “catch” everything you put down. For us, it was the dining room table and the floor area behind it.
Living in a townhome, there is limited cupboard space for groceries, so a lot of the bulk items I buy tended to end up in paper bags stacked along the wall. The table was a convenient spot to put my lunch box, keys, water bottles, and other miscellaneous items. Anytime I deep cleaned the house, I’d tidy up that area, but over time, it would again accumulate a pile of stuff.
For someone who tends to have a place for everything and likes everything in its place, it was a constant source of frustration for me because it was typically a mess most of the time. My husband didn’t like having to see the mess either.
This weekend, while out shopping for some birthday presents for one of my sisters, we came across a sideboard that would work perfectly to help organize most of the mess by the dining room table. It was the color I wanted and was much more budget friendly than one I had seen online that I liked. So we went ahead and purchased it. We also found some baskets that would work for additional storage and I was more than delighted that they happened to be 50% off. Additionally, the baskets had lids on them, which was even better as it would help keep our curious kitties from attempting to climb into the baskets of food.
After getting the area cleaned up and organized, it was so refreshing to see how neat and orderly the room looked. There are a couple of more items I will have to figure out how to organize better, but for now, I’m grateful that the room will now bring a smile our faces instead of being a constant source of frustration.
